Knife Making Experiences

Our stock removal knife making experiences are based over a weekend, or on occasion during the week if requested. These experiences start early and finish late to fit as much workshop time in as possible.

We will cover off all the major processes in building your knife, from design, cut out, heat treatment, creating your handle, all the way through to sharpening your handy work. You'll be shown how to use all the tools and equipment that I use myself, I'll walk you through all your questions and demonstrate all the techniques you'll need to put into practice to create something worth more than the sum of its parts.

The experience is £420 and currently on a one to one basis which means you get a serious amount of value out of the weekends , if you and a friend/relative/social bubble want a one to two ratio weekend please get in touch on the form at the bottom of each page or through the socials. If this is a gift for a loved one, we can provide an experience voucher to hand over.

Raw Materials

The most important part of your build, we have two steels to choose from for the weekend knife making experiences, 80crv2, a carbon tool steel and AEB-L, a stainless steel both bought from our steel merchants here in Yorkshire.

Our two steels of choice are selected because of their characteristics, robustness, ability to achieve a keen edge, toughness in extreme situations and what we feel is an all round superior offering.

When heat treating the stainless steel we will use one of our state of the art Paragon Kilns, and also Liquid Nitrogen as part of the process to achieve the optimum results we are looking for. Adding a fair amount of alchemy to the weekend to get the most out of your knife.

Bevels, Scales, Etching & Sheaths

On the second day all the hard work and prep will start to come together, the handful of raw materials we started with will start to become something that is more than the sum of its parts.

We will spend time honing the edge, hand sanding the scales for a grippy and ergonomic grip, applying the makers mark, cutting out, dying and stamping the leather slip for the sheath and giving the knife its soul.

Everyone will work through the experience at different rates, but time permitting we will create our Kydex sheath wrapped in a stamped leather slip to hang from your belt.

Please realise a sheath is something we can do together if we have enough time. I can't guarantee you'll get through all the processes involved in making a knife and leave enough time for the sheath, it will all depend on your ability . What I can say is so far we've not had a disappointed face  leave the workshop.
